What do you think about talent? Can it be learned, is it innate, or does it have to be coaxed out of one?

For Japanalex, your response was very rude and should be deleted. This is a prefect question to consider, especially, if one is trying to succeed in the industry. I feel talents can be learned at a very young age and developed over time. Those that have "natural talent" do have an advantage. Just because people say someone is "born with a talent" doesn't mean that another person can't achieve the same status with determination and practice. Back at Japanalex, I suggest to you:  If you feel that questions such as this one is irrelavent, don't comment and keep on moving concentrating on your career choices! Tootles.

I think talented people is innate, sometimes people got talent to do some skills, others takes some time to learn and understand. It's easy how talented people can solve a problem with less effort. There's some people even if they try hard enough , they will never have the feeling for it. Depends on each person to develop an eye for detail and esthetics.

I appreciate your suggestion, but I'm not sure what to do with it.

I have provided too little information for you to make an assertion as to why I asked it, only that I asked it.

Why I asked it?  I was watching the Bukowski tapes and he was discussing talent and starving for your art.  Someone else asked a question about creativity on here and such which brought me to asking about the talent he was discussing.  It had nothing to do with my own work.  I am not a designer or anything like it.  I am also not a professional by any sense of the definition.

:D

I think intelligence and critical thinking is naturally present in even the young - if it is learned it takes years. This can be applied to anything (design included). Things like illustration etc can be learned (it's pretty obvious that it can be) but things like retaining information and drive etc are much harder to learn. This question is a question many designers start to ask once they've become professional and I think it's a joke. Apart from coming off as a jerk it also makes you look highly UNprofessional so I suggest you stop asking irrelevant questions and concentrate on your work.

I'd say a combination of the two answers really. Talent probably helps, but there really isn't a substitute for hard work.

When it comes to design, maybe people have an eye for it, but if you don't put in the hard yards, you'll never learn how to use all the tools to bring your imagination to reality.
